CYAID 2011 Day 3 started up with a highly charged presentation by rapper Dwayne Gibson. D.O. holds the Guiness Book of World Records record for the longest free-style rap at an amazing 8 hours and 45 minutes! His incredible presentation gives the take home message of PSP that is Practice, Sacrifice, Persistence. Check out his website: D.O. Defy the Odds

The whole CYAID group headed out to a closed alcohol-free party at Oakville’s sportsbar Arnold. There was dancing, music, billiards, games, beach volleyball, pop and snacks. Everyone had an awesome time! Check out the pics from the party.

Great job by the MSS OSAID members helping out at the trade show. We picked up lots of new resources for education and some great new posters and giveaways. Wait for Wednesday at lunch to see (or get) some of those at MSS.

AJ Rodham spoke to the group about his long journey of recovery from a near-fatal car crash that has still left him with an acquired brain injury. His speech and video were very moving. He had great tips, the most critical of which was to “Never Give Up”. I’d love to see him at MSS next year!

Check out the CYAID crew doing a chain of life in Oakville to help raise awareness of the dangers of impaired driving. Luckily it was a beautiful day!

Check out this amazing project undertaken by SADD Alberta. It is called the Decision and was run as a contest out west. They had over 3400 entries! Check it out!The Decision movie trailer

A busy morning was had by all! We heard from Greg Schmidt of SADD Alberta with his take home message “Be your own hero!”

We heard that idrive Road Stories has gone ntaional. Check out the site leavethephonealone.ca

There was a great presentation from YOUR “Youth for Road Safety” that just launched their “Decade of Action”. Check out their video “Steve” that I’ve linked. A Decade of Action from YOURSteve for Road Safety

Be sure to watch the school’s OSAID bulletin board for a new poster series.

Well, we have all safely arrived at Sheridan College in Oakville for the 25th OSAID/CYAID provincial conference. There are over 430 delegates here from all over Canada. The first night was a great kickoff with motivational speaker Ian Tyson with his take home message of “Pain is inevitable, misery is a choice.”

MSS OSAID has decided to change its colour scheme to better reflect the provincial OSAID group. We have ordered new t-shirts with our OSAID logo. The shirts will red and the logos will be white. A bonus is that these will look great for Canada Day as well! Shirts will be delivered at our group meeting next Wednesday (in time for our CYAID conference departure on Thursday, Yeah!)

MSS hosted the MADD Multimedia show “Shattered” on March 22, 2011.  Approximately 800 students were in addendance. As always, the MADD show was power in its ability to move the students and staff.

Kristen Perry was selected as “Student of the Month” by the Rotary Club of Midland for the month of March.  The luncheon was attended by Kristen, her father Cameron Perry, and her advisor Dr. Deneka. Introductions were made by Dr. Deneka and a moving speech by Kristen. Great job, Kristen and congratulations!
